Indiana Man’s Busted Up Truck Goes Viral… Then The Community Steps In To Replace It: “God Is Good”

Here’s a feel good story for you.
Sometimes, people just have to make things work. Mo Riles, a man who lives in South Bend, Indiana, had that attitude about his green Chevy Silverado. Did it run? Yes. Was it able to get him from point A to point B? You bet. Did it look absolutely mangled and cause many to question how it was able to still work? That’s for certain.
There’s a chance you’ve seen the video or pictures of the truck online without any other context. Riles’ Chevy has been going viral on multiple social media platforms, as people marveled and joked about the vehicle’s appearances and wondered how the truck was even street legal.
Here’s one of the TikToks that’s gotten a lot of attention online:
“This Chevy Truck definitely crab walks.”

Wondering how that’s street legal?
The state of Indiana actually doesn’t require vehicle inspections to be done routinely, so Mo Riles just made sure that it was still able to run, and didn’t worry about the aesthetics of his vehicle. And that was all while his mode of transportation went viral online, with many making jokes, and one person saying on TikTok that it “looked like the Hulk smashed it.”
But as jokes about the truck flew around on the internet, there was one man in the community that saw the disaster on wheels and asked how he could help. Colin Crowel, the owner of a detailing shop in South Bend, figured that whoever was driving the truck was driving it in that condition because they had no other choice.
So the Indiana resident tracked down the truck and it’s owner, and offered to set up a crowdfunding campaign to get him a safer, much-less-damaged vehicle for Riles to drive. In a relatively short amount of time, the fundraiser exceeded $22,000, and Riles told CBS News that he was incredibly grateful for Crowel and everyone else who decided to help him:
“That’s the part that knocked me over, man. Here’s a human being seeing another human being struggle. And I’m like, ‘Wow, what did I do to deserve this?'”
Mo Riles has worked all of his life (mainly at a Dollar Tree location in South Bend), and has recently run into some health issues. He needed a reliable form of transportation to get him to doctor’s appointment, and though his Chevy wasn’t pretty, it was able to get him around town.
That is until last week, when he drove that extremely beat up Chevy to a local dealership and got a shiny, non-mangled 2019 Silverado. Simply put, Riles has been overwhelmed by the kindness extended to him, and though he’s happy to have a new ride, it’s what the community did for him that he cherishes the most:
“This whole thing is not about me. It’s about this community bonding together. God is good.”
