Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” Continues Its Dominance, Topping Billboard’s All-Genre Top Streaming Songs Chart

A certified all-genre hit.
It’s safe to say that Ella Langley mania has hit an all-time high this week with the announcement of her sophomore album, Dandelion, being set to release on Friday, April 10th. Containing 18 tracks, the record will be produced by Langley herself, alongside Miranda Lambert and Ben West.
As of now, not much is known about the tracklist other than the fact that “Choosin’ Texas” and the title track, which will be released this Friday, will make up two of the record’s lengthy 18 tracks. With that being said, it’s safe to say that the continued success of “Choosin’ Texas,” which just hit another milestone today, will be more than enough promo for the highly anticipated sophomore album from the Alabama native.
Since its release on October 7th, the song has been nothing short of a smash for Langley. Debuting at #37 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, it also launched all the way to #7 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, both of which were career-highs for the “hungover” singer.
In the weeks following, it caught even more fire. On December 2nd, it became Langley’s first career #1 hit on the aforementioned Hot Country Songs chart and also became the fastest solo female song to reach the top 10 at US Country Radio this decade, taking just eight weeks to crack the Top 10.
In case that wasn’t enough, on January 5th, “Choosin’ Texas” reached #5 on the all-genre Hot 100, skyrocketing all the way up from #48 two weeks ago. With this entry, “Choosin’ Texas” has become Langley’s first-career Top 5 entry on the chart as well as her first Top 10 entry. In case you were wondering just how rare a feat this was, the Alabama native became just the 12th woman THIS CENTURY to chart a country song inside the Top 10 on the Hot 100.
Last week, despite Zach Bryan charting 18 songs on the Hot 100, Bruno Mars rocketing to #1 with his first solo song in years with “I Just Might” and tracks like “Man I Need” and “The Fate of Ophelia” still being successful, “Choosin’ Texas” is still holding strong and only dropping one spot down to #6 where it still sits this week as well.
Even more interestingly, “Choosin’ Texas” received a whole lot of love, not on country radio, but Adult Contemporary (AC) radio last week. Despite catering typically to genres such pop, R&B and soft rock, the popularity of the track allowed Langley to score the top add last week on US Hot AC Radio, beating out the likes of pop stars, Bruno Mars, Hillary Duff and RAYE.
This week, Langley just topped Billboard’s all-genre Streaming Songs chart, totaling a staggering 18 million streams across platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music. Though she had appeared on the chart multiple times over the years, with “you look like you love me,” “Don’t Mind If I Do” and her BigXthaPlug collaboration, “Hell at Night,” all peaking inside the Top 20, “Choosin’ Texas'” #1 spot on Streaming Songs marks her first-ever all-genre #1 on any of Billboard’s charts.
In fact, “Choosin’ Texas” becomes just the fourth solo female country song to top the chart in its 13-year history. Though it’s hard to truly call the likes of Brenda Lee’s Christmas classic, “Rockin’ Around The Christmas Tree,” Beyoncé’s “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM” and Taylor Swift’s “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” country songs, according to Billboard, they’re all classified as such.
Additionally, the track has now spent nine-straight weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, four weeks at #1 on their Country Streaming Songs chart and this week, it debuted at #35 on Billboard’s Pop Airplay chart, marking her first-career crossover on a pop chart.
As each day passes, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the song is becoming nothing short of a phenomenon. While you have Morgan Wallen experiencing record-breaking success thanks to his pop and trap-fueled country songs and Zach Bryan continue to top charts with his folk and singer/songwriter tracks in the genre, it becomes noteworthy when a song as unabashedly country as “Choosin’ Texas” is not only dominate the country charts and all-genre charts such as the Hot 100 but also force itself into conventionally country-hesitant formats such as Adult Contemporary and pop radio in general.
It’s safe to say Ella Langley is a country superstar, and by the looks of it, she’s well on her way to becoming a bona fide star in music as a whole.
